The Expression of Indebtedness in Linguistics - Cross-Perspectives Between European and Asian Languages
This conference explores the notion of indebtedness in linguistic exchanges, focusing on the ways speakers express, acknowledge, or negotiate a relational imbalance, particularly through gratitude, apologies, or expectations of reciprocity. The aim is to compare linguistic practices across European and Asian languages. We encourage comparative contributions or studies on lesser-studied languages.
The conference will take place on 10–11 December 2026 at Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University and will be followed by the publication of peer-reviewed proceedings.
Registration fees may apply. Further information will be provided shortly.
The conference is supported by the CEL laboratory (Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University), the CLESTHIA laboratory (Sorbonne Nouvelle University), the ED 661 doctoral school (Sorbonne Nouvelle University) and the European Union Next-GenerationEU - CUP H73C24001500001.
